Sometimes it takes a funny man to make a serious statement. John Stewart is one of the more recognizable people who gets that label. ie. Funny man who speaks the truth (or truthiness). But on CBS late night there is David Letterman and the extremely funny Craig Ferguson. Just a couple nights ago Craig spoke about what was wrong today with television, and marketing in general. And I wanted in hopes to find a transcript to post with this, just because Craig really makes a valid point. It sometimes does seem that instead of celebrating intelligence and talent. We instead seem to celebrate stupidity (COPS, America’s Funniest Home Videos, Realty Television, Borat) and as a result intelligence is given a back seat. Well enough postulating for now, here is the video.
“It became fashionable and desirable to be young and to be stupid. And it started to be a fashion, and that grew, and that grew, and that grew, and that grew, and now that’s what all the kids want to be, ‘Oh, I just want to be young and stupid!’, but that’s not what you want to be. But you know what, that’s not what you want to be! You don’t want to be that! Don’t be young and stupid!”
