15:02, that’s it. Second beam all the way round and the LHC is up and running.

13:55, the LHC’s second beam is now on its way.

10:25, 10 September 2008. Historic moment. The LHC first beam has just circulated. Amazing moment.

CERN updated their twitter account and with that geeks cheered and wondered if they had Reddit’s Crow Bar ready. They’ve turned it on, but the particle collisions don’t start until at least October 21st.

I’m curious though. Are all new major scientific breakthroughs going to have to be made outside the United States?
