One of the Christmas gifts I got last year that I’m still enjoying is a Mythbusters desk calender. Todays was an interesting fact I thought I’d share.
Technically, a daddy longlegs is not a spider. It doesn’t make silk; it’s not a predator; and, it doesn’t scavenge. However, even though a daddy longlegs is not considered a spider, it’s still classified as an arachnid.
A little research though find it may not be totally true (ironically), as Wikipedia notes that the spider most of us in California consider a daddy long legs, are spiders; while there is a bug called the harvestmen which isn’t technically a spider.

Interesting! Reminds me of the crane flies(also called cane flies) that most newcomers here mistake for mosqitos, and even refer to them as daddy long legs on occasion. What we call daddy long legs are definitely the harvestmen critter.
