Matt Mullenweg may have wanted WordCamps organized all over the world, but Aaron and I would settle for the one actually being organized. A little more than a month away, and there’s R.S.V.P. list or agenda. As much as we appreciate Automattic organizing the conference, we’re voicing the concerns of a lot of people when we voice our frustrations over the seeming lack of organization and advance information. We also talked about our plans to hold a session on podcasting and record an episode there.

[The WordPress Podcast » Episode 25]

Well here is one subject I’m sure I’m not alone in voicing.  I understand Matt just got back from Greece so perhaps he’ll find time to make sure certain things are finalized, and at least set up a registration or a wiki (again) to get ideas for the conference.  I seem to remember last year a Conference ideas post/survey going up 3 months before the conference, and the sign up list going up around same time.  Now I understand that since this year it’ll cost he needs to set up registration, but how about at least set up a $20 deposit using paypal or something like that so he can get an idea on numbers, we feel better, and we get less clamouring. :)

Oh also listen to the who podcast, as usual its an interesting overview on the wordpress news, and events.  Plus I’m glad they voiced something I was getting worried about… though I did “sign up” via UpComing, but I doubt Automattic is using it.

  1. That should be “and there’s no R.S.V.P. list or agenda.”

Without your pingback, I might not have caught that. Thanks!

  2. Matt says:

Actually last year it was about 3.5 weeks from announcement to conference.

  3. And last year was an impromptu thing, we understand that. This time, there was a whole year to plan.

  4. My apologies, you’re right Matt… it was pretty fast. But it just feels that you where farther along. And I think it was your teaser posts that have us expecting to hear more sooner. I actually expected you guys to be cruising into the conference with no worries even weeks ahead of time.

  5. Matt says:

It’s coming together, the most important thing is the people and most have already made arrangements to be there.

it would solidify whether or not i’m going if i knew what was going on and if it was actually worth flying out there for it. right now, the only reason i’d be going (because no information has been given) is to see a friend that is going (and that is also upset that nothing has been announced as of yet). whole thing seems very disorganized to me.

  7. Matt says:

If you liked last year, as pretty much everyone who went did, then this year will be even better.

  8. shep says:

well, i would imagine there are a lot of people who didn’t go last year, like me, and don’t know what to expect. it would be helpful if I knew what was going on so I could determine whether or not it’s worth my time and money.

  9. How did all the good comments end up over at your blog instead of ours?! :D

  10. I’m shrugging my shoulders… but I also was commenting on one small part of your podcast. You hit on a number of good points. Just keep it up, and I’ll make sure to keep some tomatoes for the podcast at Wordcamp.

Matt – Are you still seeing a little of what I was talking about. People are excited and interested in going. But Vacation plans, Airline flights and such take time to schedule (to get them cheap) and some are interested… but don’t fully know what would be there.

Perhaps throw up the suggestion board of topics again, and see what comes up?
