I was talking yesterday with some clients of mine and was interested to find that after he had sold his business, he’d spent his day(s) reading blogs. Now this was a guy who had run a very successful nursery for years and he had decided that he had enough money to be comfortable. He didn’t need to work. And for entertainment he found reading blogs key.
I’m not sure why that surprised me. Perhaps its because I’m so multi-tasking all the time. I’ll be watching TV and surfing the web. Reading a book, or magazine, or newspaper while having lunch with my wife. I don’t even single task in conversations… (Yes I realize this isn’t good)
In talking I found that he read mainly psychology blogs. Not because he was a psych major, or because of a need. But because he found that subject interesting on a reading standpoint. One of the flaws in my blog is that I have too many interests. I’ll write about certain subjects one day, or even one time, and then move to something that at times is very different. And I’ve come to realize that those that read this blog probably are the same way.
I had asked him why he didn’t have a blog, since he seemed to like them so much, and he gave the same answer a number do. “I really don’t have anything to talk about.” And he may think that, but its the nuggets that make people come. What you may not think is interesting, may be extremely interesting to a number of people. And not all blogs are rambling theories on the human mind; can you tell that I only read dumbed down psychology? Also not all bloggers update daily, in fact as long as its somewhat regular*, a blog will get readership.
*Yes I know I haven’t written a post on A little bit of vino in a while… I’ve been drinking different beers recently.
I saw todays Dilbert in which a clueless boss decides to impart his wisdom on a blog, ending with, “I can’t wait to see what I’m thinking.”

And I agree, I think more clueless bosses should blog. For two reasons:
- In the hopes that by reading their mistakes they’ll be able to see them, and not repeat them.
- As a humor fan I would enjoy the… mistakes, inaccuracies, bumbling… well over all, everything.
