I was watching Cartoon Network with my son, and caught a bit about the robocup challenge. Needless to say, I found that interesting so I did a little research. It seems there are a few different leagues, but the one I found the most interesting was the Aibo (Four Legged) League.
Currently, there exist a number of different RoboCup soccer leagues that focus on different aspects of this challenge. The Four-Legged League is one of them. In the league teams consisting of four Sony Aibo robots each play on a field of 6 m x 4 m. The robots operate fully autonomously, i.e. there is no external control, neither by humans nor by computers.

Watching the clip on Cartoon Network it seemed very cut and dry. Like they where pretty far along. I found the final of the 2006 Championship on YouTube, and it isn’t bad. Its speed is about what I figured, but they do seem relatively intelligent. They did a lot of passing and it wasn’t always a dog pile (sorry I had to say it). Below you’ll find a 22 Minute final on YouTube and below that links to some interesting sources.
