U2 by U2The one gift that I’ve found the most post worthy was a book. It’s a book that I had seen but figured was “a bit” out of my price range. Also I wasn’t sure how I’d like it. This book was U2 by U2.

The quotes are awesome. Put together by a interviewer who interviewed U2 over 3 years and laidout by an artist who had done some of the original concert posters, the book has an amazing blend of great quotes, some actual meat and a huge number of great band photos. If you are a U2 fan you’ll love the book. (So yes my review is biased) if you just like U2 you will probably like it too. It’s entertaining as they pretty straightforwardly go through the years. With great quotes like Larry saying “We’re such a dysfunctional band, we can’t play any one else’s music so we had to write our own.” Bono showing that he’s sometimes let the act of performing get so in control of him that he’s left the rest of the band members ready to kick his ass… only to be proved as the right thing to of done. And another quote from Larry going on how being in U2 is like being on a runaway train and they are left holding on for their life. Sometimes having things come together without everyone even knowing it was happening. And more great quotes I won’t even get into, except to say that there was nuggets everywhere.

I’ve scanned through the book for a few hours over the last few days. And each time I end up engrossed onto a different subject. One time the pictures, another time a story, another time a series of quotes. If you can’t afford to buy it, check your local library, The Local Library System showed 10 copies. You may find that after borrowing it, you’ll want to buy it though.

One Response to “Of the many gifts I got for Christmas”

  1. [...] I only saw the Vertigo Tour once.  Was tempted when they came into the area a second time, but I didn’t have the mad cash to spare.  And one who has gone to 4 U2 Concerts… They always rock, even the tour they declared as their hugest failure the Popmart Tour. But the fact that even with doing more concerts and touring so long, the Stone’s beat them in a larger grossing tour… simply because of the price of their tickets and how long that Stone’s Tour has been going on.  The article goes on, and I have to agree it’s a real article if you’re a U2 fan (like me) but I figured this article tied nicely with the one I wrote about their book U2 by U2.
