Prototype.js != $(). I’ve been thinking about other JS libraries lately, like Moo, jQuery, and Dojo. (jQuery and Dojo both use WordPress for their blogs.) We need to make a final final decision about what JS framework we’re going to stick to for a year or more before we release WP 2.1.

I had already debated Prototype for the site, and figured that I’d deal with the delay issues with WordPress 2.1.  The Share This plugin uses Prototype, but I was able to delete it and have it default to a basic way (no fanciness).  I don’t mind it looking good, but for some reason prototype was adding tons of calls to every download.  And it had slowed down this site load to a crawl.  I hoped they’d have that fixed in WordPress 2.1 and work out why that was so ShareThis would work cleaner.  But that fact that even Matt had figured that it may not be worth it, make my decision to delete it valid.  And the options he gives instead at the heart seems a good replacements. I’ll be keeping an eye on his thread to see what way he’s going to be going, and see if Alex of Share This changes his plugin to use that library instead especially since it being ported to other platforms.  Meanwhile I’ll be taking a look at the other libraries to see if I can fancy the theme up with one them (once it’s been decided on which library they plan to go with).
