OK Christmas time is coming, and lighting up the house is just one thing I have a tendency to do. And with moving to modern times I’ve been looking at the many different ways to control the lights. First we have a commercial way to go, Light-O-Rama:
Light-O-Rama is a leading manufacturer of user programmable light controllers. Our powerful controllers and easy to use software put you completely in control of your lights.
Our light controllers are used to create moving lighting effects in any environment. Our units range from a cost effective 15 Amp 8 point controller to custom built units with unlimited amperage. Our controllers are used for Christmas lights, signs, casino lights, trade show displays or any moving light display!
From a simple standalone chaser to a sophisticated 1000 channel display coordinated to music, Light-O-Rama is the absolute price leader with feature packed controllers and the easiest to use software in the industry.

OK… the sales pitch looks nice and it’s a pretty slick set up system, but the starting $400+ price point makes it a no go for me.
Doing a quick search I found a walk through putting together your own light show using some off the shelf and fairly affordable items, but it’s a lot of work in the end to set it up.
So you wanna make a kickass Holiday lightshow music extravaganza eh?
well u can throw one together in a couple days with hardly any expenses…
Here is what I came up with in literally less that 3 days

This looks to end up with a cool idea and all, but you have to have some programming knowledge and it seems sorta hockey to me.
Well and to finish I ran acrossed a site where enthusiasts get together and explain how to do it, where to buy it, and show off what they’ve done.
Where do you start? How do you do it? How much does it cost? Pretty good questions.
Start with the links to the left. Keep in mind there is a lot to absorb and it can be overwhelming in the beginning. Start small, master it and then build upon what you’ve done. It works every time!
One of the most exciting things you can do is computerize your display! Not only does it make for an exciting light show and traffic stopper, but it also saves dramatically on electricity being used. Why? Since the computer controls when the lights are on and off, and they’re flashing, you use a lot less electricity.
Check all the categories to the right and explore them. There’s so much to know and so little time to get ready for Christmas!
Don’t forget the most important reason to decorate the outside of your house at Christmas… Santa is more likely to see your place when he’s flying around delivering gifts.
So to finish… I’m now even more unsure which way I’m going to go THIS year, but I will be implementing it for sure next year, and it’s sure looking like it’s gotten pretty simple… and really not that expensive.
