Thanks ImageshackI’d ignore this wine normally but now I’m curious about how it is. Why is this? Because it shares a name with one of the most popular and easiest to use Linux Distributions, Ubuntu.

But what is Ubuntu wine you ask?

The word “Ubuntu” means to share and the four single varietal wines that comprise the brand are intended to be enjoyed together with family and friends, as part of a shared lifestyle experience.

The varietals of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz have been produced in an easy-drinking fruity style to offer a premium wine for consumers to enjoy.

The Ubuntu range is truly South African and New World in character, displaying upfront fruit in a medium-bodied style, making it an ideal tipple for consumers who appreciate quality wine, either for sipping or pairing with food.

The brand is intended to compete in and grow the South African category in Canada. It was launched by Maxxium, KWV’s agents, and its introduction into the market was accompanied by various in-store promotional activities and POS material to create awareness.

Johan Bestbier, KWV International’s managing director, believes that Ubuntu will grow the premium wine segment, create awareness of the quality of South African wines and become part of an enjoyable lifestyle.

I’ve heard before that South Africa makes decent wine… but have yet to see it proved. I think for quality I’ll have to stick with the Ubuntu Linux OS Distro… because as with a real fine wine at least it will age well and only get better with age.
