GeekZine: The Blog! » Transformers the Movie: Line-up Revealed, Contest

During a live 30-minute webcast on Yahoo!Movies, the dynamic Screenwriting duo of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Alias, Xena: Warrior Princess, MI:III) revealed exactly which Autobot and Decepticon characters will be in the upcoming TRANSFORMERS movie. Here’s the complete list:

Autobots (5):
Optimus Prime
Bumblebee (as a Camero not a VW Beetle)
Jazz
Ironhide
Ratchet

Decepticons (8):
Megatron
Starscream
Bonecrusher (’the closest thing to a Destructicon‘)
Brawl
Baricade (’a Police Car‘)
Scorpinoc (‘very similar to a Dinobot/Beastwars character’)
Frenzy
Blackout

Throughout the webcast, Alex and Robert took several questions from fans via email, and both stressed the fact that they too are huge Transfromers fans who grew up watching them, and because of this they are trying there best to stay true to the ‘feel’ and ’sound’ of the original series. They also addressed the internet rumor of human vs. machine screen-time, stating that a previously leaked draft of the screenplay was fake, and they it’s easiy to forget that four pages of dialogue can go by in a movie in a few moments, whereas one paragraph eluding to an action sequence could literally be the biggest, longest, scene in the film.

Saying that they wanted it to contain a good mix of G1 (original series) and some newer series character-types, they explained that the reason for these specific character choices, and the seemingly unfair ratio of Autobot-to-Decepticon will make sense when you see the film.

There was also several reference made to ‘threads’ that have been woven into the script for future sequels where we will surely be introduced to some of the other classic characters that didn’t make it into this film.

They also announced that there will be a contest on the movie’s official website beginning within the next few weeks where you can submit a line of dialogue that you’d like to see Optimus Prime utter during the movie. The contest is dubbed “Write a line for Optimus Prime.” A link to the contest will be posted here as soon as it becomes available.

OK… in one case I can’t wait for this movie… I grew up watching Transformaers, owned a number and was excited to see this take. They’ve gotten some bad publicity with take down notices and other flack.

I will say this, the mix of characters are sure diverse. It’s like they wanted to try and please every one.
