The personal-transport revolution the Segway was supposed to launch never materialized, but that hasn’t stopped the company from introducing a second generation of its scooter. The two new models unveiled today are the i2 — a simplified version of the original — and the x2 — an all-terrain model. The i2 features “LeanSteer” technology, which lets the user steer by leaning his whole body in the direction he wants to go. Both models include the Bluetooth-enabled InfoKey, which performs the functions of an odometer, speedometer, battery gauge and anti-theft device. But ultimately its the pricing that will determine if this makeover makes the new Segway more popular than the original, and though pricing for the x2 hasn’t been announced yet, the i2 will set you back $4,995.
I personally think though kind of a cool idea, they are goofy. But there are a few people in town that go around on them (by few I mean no more then 3 or so). And they needed to come out with a newer version or have them disappear…. plus this will give the local Segway dealer (Yamaha Motorcycle dealer also sells Segways) something new to try and draw people in. I’ll laugh if I see a cop riding around on one of those like what’s on the right.
