I had the pleasure of finding an incredible article that completely changed my view of things happening in Lebanon. This article was written by a Lebanese journalist living in Beirut who sounds nothing short of ecstatic about the Israeli campaign against Hezbollah.

What we all keep forgetting (myself included) is that the Lebanese were the first victims of Hezbollah’s “state within a state”. And while 1000 or so Lebanese civillians may truly have been killed in the Israeli offensive (Michael Behe, the journalist, actually suspects those numbers are being exaggerated for sympathy points), Israel is creating far fewer casualties than might have resulted if Lebanon had tried to disarm Hezbollah itself – something it had a moral duty to do.

Lebanon was a puppet country of Syria for years. And when they finally had a chance to throw off Syrian influence, they foolishly chose to allow Hezbollah to continue receiving and stockpiling thousands of missiles that would eventually draw them into a punishing conflict with Israel – a neighboring state they should have had peaceful and mutually beneficial economic relations with.

Now Michael Behe is afraid that with the IDF stopping their offensive, its going to be up to the Lebanese themselves to finish this vital task if their country is ever going to truly become their own sovereign nation. It’s a task that he bemoans has proven itself beyond the political will of his leaders.

It’s interesting in that when the Israeli’s went in lots of people assumed that the Lebanese where all going to be against it.  And that they’d be cheering the session of hostilities… but here we have one person who is bemoaning that, “…its going to be up to the Lebanese themselves to finish this vital task if their country is ever going to truly become their own sovereign nation. It’s a task that he bemoans has proven itself beyond the political will of his leaders.”

Powerful words are spoken here.  Maybe with some political will they’l be able to rid themselves of this cancer. Or years later they’ll find themselves cheering a invasion by Isreal again.
