We had no internet here for 4 days pretty much… because of a port.
Friday I worked myself through both Teir 1 and Teir 2 support only to determine it had to be something they had done. I had been working away and 10:30 bam we lost internet here. I tried some basic diagnostics, and then moved to pinging directly from the router before I called them to tell them that they where not routing. After going through and verifying numerous times, they set up a service call and scheduled it for between 12-4 today.
Dane came out and I have to say he tried. He confirmed we where down… used his “Sunrise” xDSL tester and confirmed it wasn’t routing… Called the office and tried to get them to confirm everything was alright. But finallly had to walk the guy at teh office through physically checking the ports on the router. And sure enough our port was bad. So after 2 hours on the phone and hearing him say 30-40 times “I can’t even get out on my sunrise, it’s not the clients hardware…” he was able to have them switch ports and rebuild and we where back up. After the last snafu it was nice to get someone who knew what he was doing and was able to coerce someone into fixing it right… even if they didn’t know how.
It’s amazing how much spam you get when you see days worth all at once.
