I know this is late so I’ll keep it short. I went and saw Superman Returns tonight and I have to say it’s a keeper. I liked the first one, and even though I’m a big fan (or was a huge one growing up) I felt the sequels where going down hill. And when Richard Prior was in number… it was beyond Jumping the Shark.
The acting was supurb, the new guy, Brandon something or other, did a great job. And even those who hadn’t seen the series thought the movie was good. The weak points was the work on setting up for sequels of this sequel. And also they wanted to show lots of special effects. A special effect done just to wow, is sorta bleh. I did see a lot of influence from Smallville though.
In case you want them I am including some links to the older ones. I realized I didn’t have them in my library, and I know my son would love to watch them.
It’s funny I guess Amazon also thought Superman III was bad. They don’t even include it on DVD. Though I did find it in VHS. And for those wondering about Smallville?
P.S. I’m playing with a new plugin that allows one to fairly easily insert info from Amazon. I was using it for CDs and covers… and figured to see where else it’d come in handy. I just wish they’d be more consistant in the images.
