Article showing a flat screen CRT from 1958 that was less than 3″ thick. Is this real? At first glance many will suspect it’s a photoshop. But it really did exist.
This was real. It looks like it got abandoned more because of licensing and a standards battle than anything else. Here is a really interesting interview done with the inventor from 1996.
Isn’t it always amaing when you find out a big corporation squashed something because “They couldn’t release it.”

The Toshiba/Canon flatscreen SED television is due out in 2008 and promises to solve some of the problems of plasma and LCD TV’s. However, I suspect that the price will be higher than a 1958 model.
