When Do You Know the iPod Craze Has Gone Too Far?
April 5, 2006By David Johnston
Contributing Writer, RealTechNewsToday I received a very interesting advertisement in the mail. It came from J&R, a retailer which I’ve purchased several things from in the past…enough to get me on the mailing list anyway. I normally like to pore over these kinds of tech advertisements just for fun and to make sure I’m not missing out on any cool gadget that I somehow hadn’t noticed before. Anyway, today as I was flipping through this latest advertisement, I started to notice something strange: the entire 32-page ad was exclusively for iPod accessories. I quickly flipped to the front of the ad to read it again, and sure enough I noticed that what I was holding was the “iPod Accessories Guide” for Spring 2006. That’s right, J&R’s is now sending out 32-page ads full of nothing but iPod accessories.
As a current Shuffle owner (and soon Video Ipod owner), I’ve somewhat interestedly noted all the accessories they sell for them… but 32 pages worth? And I wonder if they really carry everything. Seriously it seems EVERY store carries something. From 7-11 carrying Ipods themselves and accessories, to Target’s decent selecton of odds and ends as well as even local camera stores carrying accessories. But the author seemed impressed and if you end up getting that catalog, pass it along I’d be curious to see.
