I’m loving this years birthday. I’m one of those guys who likes cooking…. but I’m also one who likes good cooking, generally at retaurants. So the last few days have been great.
Friday Night I had a great Milet Minon Dinner at OD’s in Downtown Truckee. The Filet was wrapped in Applewood Bacon, Topped in a Blue Cheese butter and melted in my mouth. I have to say it was the best I’ve had. Complimented with a pint of Fat Tire, and the Garlic Mashed Potatoes that came with it made it a very good dinner and with the Irish Folk singing going on in the bar a nice way to end the evening.
Saturday Dinner wasn’t much to talk about but it’s lunch was delicious with the group of us going into Reno and having lunch at Bonici Brothers. The place looked to be a Pizza place in design, but the sandwiches they made where the bomb. I personally had a Chicken Parmesean Sandwich that was pretty delicious, but Doug couldn’t say more about the Italian Sausage Sandwich. The Wife had a New Yrok Chicken Sandwich, which though messy was good enough for me to attempt a theft…
Sundays Dinner that my best friend Doug and his wife Diana Moore cooked for us was top notch. It was a delicious meal of Breaded Chicken Breasts Baked, Homemade creamy mashed potatoes, and greenbeans with a bit of bacon added. It all added up it was a good filling meal that saw me going for seconds.
The drive home Monday was tiring, especially when the floodgates opened up in Vacaville and was dumping on everything. So it was nice to get a call from my parents inviting us over for a Roast Beef Dinner, complete with Mashed Potatoes and green beans.
Because this week is both my Sister and I’s birthdays my parents did their annual tradition and Tuesday took us out to dinner. Which this year meant Ristorante Allegra in Downtown Napa. Set inside a restored and redone bank the atmosphere was very nice. We sat back and just indulged our selves with a nice Chardonnay from a local Napa winery and followed that by a bottle of Luna Sagnovese. The Spinich Salad I had with it’s Pears and Blue Cheese crumbles complimented itself nicely and led up to a (surprise surprise) Australian Filet Mignon this time with Asparagrass that had been grilled. The Filet had been topped in a Gargonzola Butter that went nicely. All in all the atmosphere and the experince was nicer then Fridays dinner, but the Filet was better friday. The Dessert that followed was a nice way to end with a slice of New Yrok Cheesecake topped in rasberries and a glass of Grahams 10 Year Downey. I wouldn’t of minded the 20 year instead but port and cheesecake does compliment each other nicely.
So it seemed I’ve been spoiled dinnerwise but it’s still to go, with Lunch at Downtown Joes today with my dad for my birthday, Dinner tonight with mainly friends at the Olive Garden (I’m a sucker for their tour of Italy) or Fillippi’s on First Street in Napa depending on how busy the Olive Garden is, Fazeratti’s Pizza Shack Thursday as we get together with some of my wife’s friends, and Dinner and Cocktails Friday. I will admit that this is the busiest I’ve been for a good number of years.
BTW – I put up some pictures up of this last weekend in Truckee. The amount of snow that came down was nice… leaving me with the addage that visiting snow country is nice, but I wouldn’t want to live there. I’ll also take pictures when I go back up in 2 weeks, this time we’re supposed to be going to a friend of my sister’s cabin closer to the lake.
