This guy took exif data (data about pictures) from a GPS enabled camera, parsed it and sent that data to Google Maps. The examples of Washington D.C. are great. I cannot wait to do this with my camera. This is a must see!
A very cool application (a bit slow right now). You can’t really tell which way the camera is pointed of course. But you can take an interesting tour of Washington DC this way (one of the places he’s already uploaded). I can easily see this used elswhere.
I plan to talk to a friend and see if we can’t work out some way to merge GPS data with my nikon, so I don’t have to kick down for an expensive camera. If not I’ll keep the info handy and wait till I can get this setup.

Is there any way that I can be traced using a GPS reciver thorugh internet, like if am outside and my GPS is working is there any application by which anybody can trace me sitting on computer?
Actually yes… in certain situations. If you have it turned on for 911, when you call 911 it will give your location to the authorities. Also there are now kids phones now that you can buy (I was looking at one from Verizon) that allows specifc clients to track it. Both via a web page and/or an app that can be downloaded onto certain models of cell phones. It’s supposedly such that it’s locked in and only if you have the name and password for te kids phone. I’ve been looking at it for my son.
I guess today many Internet companies are already using GPS for the Internet, and tracking their users’ locations. For example, you live in a small town, but when you visit some companis’ websites, they know where you are and send you a commercial something like “The girls in [your town name] want to contact you”. Scary? What can you do?
