Ever since Apple released the itunes 6.03 update I’ve been having headaches.  Out of the three machines I ran it on I had install issues on two.  My work design station I had to track down the Installshield scripting interface updates and follow the directions to remove and reinstall that.  And my Living Room box I still haven’t been able to get it installed.  After downloading it over 12 times using 3 different browsers I still keep getting the fact the installation files are corrupt.

Now I really am getting curious as what is going on, as I had unistalled my k-lite full codec install thinking I was getting a quicktime install error.   But when I went to reinstall it.

So besides getting majorly confused I decided that something else was up.  But in looking into it I noticed that the itunes is actually rarred and setup as a self extractor which then runs the setup.  So I tried extracting the exe…. and the file is corrupt.  Each downloaded file is slightly diffeent, but they all seemed to die around the same point:

!   C:\Documents and Settings\Patrick Havens.*********\iTunesSetup.exe: CRC failed in QuickTimeInstaller.exe. The file is corrupt
!   C:\Documents and Settings\Patrick Havens.*********\iTunesSetup.exe: Unexpected end of archive

So either I’m getting a badly uploaded file.  or for some reason the file is getting corrupted (many times) when I download the file(s).

I’m going to look farther into what’s going on (since there must be others with this issue) and I’ll edit the post with more info.

  1. Well I was finnally able to get updated… by using a Download helper. Which makes me wonder… is my net card adding so much noise that downloads from iffy hosts die? And when did Apple become an iffy host?
