You take thousands of good looking athletic people together.  With lots of free food, drink and oh yea alchohol and condoms what do you get?  Some wild times.  It really hasn’t been commented on, but shouldn’t be surprising.

These last Winter games had drunken atheletes gettting in fights and kicked out of the games.  And then there was Bode Miller who “love the olympics experience” but didn’t give a shit about his performance.  If anyone should be dropped faster then a hot potato by advertisers for this attitude (and sponsors) it should be Bode.  After his interviews I’m just sick of him.

But I digress… the stories told in this Scotsman article are hilarious in some ways and also a true face on human nature.  The drinking  should be expected if you know much about the nature of some countries.  Where beer is such an important staple in their diet/meal.  The article has a lot of moments that will definately answer some questions.

The secret of the modern Olympics is that the athlete village, with its tightly packed collection of firm young bodies, 24-hour sports television and all-you-can eat international cuisine, has become the most exclusive VIP club in the world. It’s “a two-week-long private party for thousands of hard-bodies,” says Nelson Diebel, an American swimmer who won gold twice in Barcelona. Like a mirage, the village appears in the middle of an exuberant host city for two weeks every two years. Open only to competitors, coaches and trainers, it’s a wonderland of hormones, glycogen and dance mixes.

Whatever does happen there are some amazing scenes… and I can’t wait for the next one.  I just hope NBC DOESN’T broadcast it.  But that’s best left for another rant.
