Maybe not defined then cleared up. A zealot will always see the dark side as the opposition. So a mac user/lover will see gates/windows as the dark side, and visa versa… which is what we have in this case. Jason Cross a writer for ExtremeTech had bashed Apple and it’s products as unfriendly or just lockin (you have to stick with them or else) crap.
Well he relented and ended up getting an ipod. And I have to say that it took extreme matters for him to decide too. ie. Microsoft not even bothering to have plans to add features he deemed important in his music player / portable music player features. He wanted to be able to download videos… and was willing to wait for the newest version of Windows Media player to support going to the Microsoft store (Urge) and downloading videos to a list that could then be uploaded to his windows braded or compatible player. But they didn’t even have plans to add that. And then he asked about podcast support and that wasn’t even on the horizon. For once a Microsoft not embracing and extending.

At CES this past year, I spoke with several Microsoft reps about Media Player 11 and the Urge music store that will be the default built-in music shopping experience. They’re doing some cool stuff, but not nearly enough. A big deal was made about how a new data management scheme will let you instantly search through thousands of tracks, with albums and tracks filtering out as you type in the search box. iTunes has had that for ages.

So I asked, “Will I be able to search through a big list of podcasts, subscribe with one click, and add my own by dragging in RSS links? Just like iTunes?” This was met with blank stares, and eventually a sheepish admission that it’s not planned for Media Player 11. What? Microsoft, are you insane?

So he bought an ipod and downloaded and installed itunes and fell in love. With only a minor gripe (that a reader listed a work around for). Interesting overview on why ipods are nice (I agre) and I thought the reasoning why was the more important news in this article.
