Town’s new highway boss lives in treehouse
DANBY, N.Y. (AP) — Plenty of people live with their parents. But not many live in a treehouse on their parents’ property while being in charge of the local highway department.
Forty-five-year-old Andrew Thurnheer spends his off-hours 40-plus feet up in a tree on his parents’ 200-acre cattle farm just outside Ithaca, New York.
Thurnheer built the treehouse nearly 20 years ago, and its features include an electric motor-powered hoist for an elevator, a shower and a propane heater.
A ground-level outhouse stands nearby.
In November, voters in the town of Danby made him their highway superintendent.
He’s an experienced mechanic and trucker, who plans to fly his ultralight airplanes to work.
He also spends part of the winter in the Sri Lankan jungle as part of an elephant protection project.
I have to say that this was a pretty interesting person all around but… um I don’t see him getting married.
